Truth and Nothing but the Truth.
Sir ,— In the footnote to a peal of Treble Bob rung at Sheffield pariah church, and recorded in this week’s “ Bell News,” your correspondent makes the assertion that Mr. Richard Collier is the oldest ringer in the county, which statement I venture to contradict, as Mr. Francis Allen, also of Ranmoor, has reached the age of 74 years, and rang a 720 of Plain Bob as far back as 1853 at Witham-on-the-Hill, Lincolnshire, and as recently as the 17th of February this year rang the 3rd in a qnarter-peal of Grandsire Triples at Ranmoor, conducted by Francis Ward. So these veterans keep in touch with their younger brethren, and long may they both be spared to come among us.
Sam Thomas.

P.S.— Yorkshire is a big county, and it is a large order to state that a ringer of 70 is the oldest out of about 2000 ringers.
