Ranmoor Ring
and Ramble
|
|
|
Six ringers (and one loyal ringer’s supporter) embarked on a
Ring and Ramble.
Starting at Bamford (a light ring of six with sprung steel stays) and
ringing with two local ringers, the group rang before the arrival of a
bride for a 12 noon wedding. Unlike Ranmoor, this bride arrived on
time!! Following the ringing the group divided, some walking and some
driving.
|
|
The walkers left the village on a footpath above the
church, quickly climbing to the local golf course with excellent views
across the Hope Valley. Light refreshment in the form of excellent
farm-made ice cream was taken at Thorpe Farm (Hope Valley Ice Cream)
before the final downhill portion of the walk into Hathersage.
Les was
born and brought up in this area and was able to provide historical and
local insights eg Bronte connections in the parish. Les described his
experience of following this very walk in order to get to school at the
age of 5 in the company of a fellow pupil aged 7. It would not happen
today!

| Lunch
|
The Scotsman’s Pack, a pub close by the church, provided a
wide range of good quality meals for lunch prior to the ringing.
|
|
Hathersage,
a six bell tower, where ringing takes place on a raised platform at the
rear of the church offers ringers a great, close up view of the newly
renovated stained glass windows.
Being a small group, we
concentrated on Plain Bob, Grandsire and a couple of courses of
Stedman.
The only comments on our ringing were from visitors to the
church at Hathersage “#### that’s loud!”
The weather was kind to us
being dry and rather warm, but made the ice cream indulgence the more
welcome.

Hazel
and Gill (joint Social Secretaries) will look to the
planning of future trips – maybe more local towers. If you
have
ideas/suggestions, please let us know
