  Robin Story, MBE

On Tuesday 5th March, Robin Story attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace to receive an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen for services to the community in Nigeria. Although the award was actually made in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in June 1990, Robin had been unable to attend an earlier investiture in November and it remained a closely guarded secret until the weekend before the event.
A quarter peal was rung at Ranmoor on the day as a compliment to Robin.

  Bells Inspection by Taylors

Last July, an inspection of Ranmoor Bells was carried out by Colin Banton from Taylor's Bellfounders, this being the first professional inspection for a number of years. Although prompted as a matter of “good housekeeping“ rather than due to any concern with the bells, Colin's report revealed that they are now showing a degree of wear commensurate with nearly 60 years continous use and that a steady deterioration would take place unless some work was undertaken in the near future.

An estimate of approximately 6000 was given for the cost of renovating the pulleys, clappers, gudgeons and bearings on the basis of all dismantling and reassembly work being carried out by ourselves.

Although the bells are still in a servicable condition, we have decided that we should have the necessary work done to return them to first class working order and give a further 60 years of trouble—free operation, A firm timetable has not yet been drawn up for the work, however it will probably be carried out during the ‘quiet season‘ next winter and in the meantime ringing continues as normal.
